February 23 The First Charter Lol, I read the first chater of A Tale of Two Cities, like those period when I was a child, I read every word cautiously ,It makes some troubles for me again , but it was fun . In the proface, I found a strange word, Cock-Lane ghost , haha, it is a good learning , I can use that to joke one day . That word is not in proface , It is in the first charter. February 22 I am reading A tale of Two Cities I am reading A tale of Two Cities I am reading it , I once read its adapted test years ago, I did not have patience to read all, but I felt the novel is different from other novels I read. Usually novels like to give reading a end of what is right , or what is wrong, I mean they like to play the Lord ,they like to blame one side , and praise the other side, It seems that wrongs all belong to the side which the authors don't like . LOL , But A Tale of Two Cities is differnt ,or a little different. Days ago, my friennd said Dickens, Charles' book is hard to read That make me to want to read the English novel again . At the first , it really sprised me .Not easy, it is not easy to read , at least , for me . IT WAS the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way -- in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only. I have some trouble on those test in red , I understand them like these: we were all going to die soon, the period was so far like the present period , that some of its noisiest authorities (authorities in that period) insisted on its being received,(what is its being received? It means that that period was to be believed? or what?) for good or for evil, (not matter good or bad) in the superlative degree of comparison only.(Authorities in that period thought that period was good , because they compare with others periods? and only people in hight level in that period thought that period was good ) |
